How does Fotona StarWalker® MaQX treat pigmented lesions?
StarWalker® is built with two unique laser technologies – PICO and NANO. The machine emits powerful photoacoustic shockwaves to break pigment into ultrafine particles that are easily eliminated. Our body will respond by moving fluid to the area to help flush away the particles.
What type of pigmented lesions can Fotona StarWalker® MaQX treat?
It is most commonly used to treat dermal and epidermal lesions such as brown age spots, freckles, melasma and different types of brown birthmarks.
Is there any downtime?
Redness can be observed immediately after the treatment and a scab will be formed 2-3 days after the treatment. However, patients can return to their daily activities immediately with adequate moisturizing and sunscreen protection.
Is the treatment painful?
Anaesthetic cream will be applied on the treated area 30 minutes before the treatment. During treatment, the patient will feel like there are many small rubber bands snapping on the skin and is generally very tolerable.
Are there any side effects?
The treatment does not come with any side effects because its wide-ranged wavelength remains within safe levels. It provides precise treatment that is strong enough to address the problem, but spares the healthy tissues surrounding it.
How many treatment sessions does it take to achieve desired results?
Each unique patient and condition requires a different treatment protocol. Everyone’s skin responds a bit differently and your results will depend on your compliance with your clinician’s instructions. Results are typically seen after the first session but it can take 5-8 sessions to produce optimal results.
What precautions should I take before and after this treatment?
For all laser treatments, you must avoid exposure to direct sunlight before treatment and a few weeks after treatments. Most importantly, moisturizer and sunscreen (SPF>35) protection must be applied daily.
When can I come back for another treatment session?
The recommended interval time for the next treatment session is 4 weeks. However, for dermal lesions, interval time is 6-8 weeks. Your physician will advise you based on your skin type and the nature of the treatments that you are receiving.
How long does is each treatment session?
Each treatment takes about 30 minutes, with minimal recovery time needed.

How does Laser Hair Removal work?
Fotona StarWalker® MAQX is equipped with FRAC3® technology which works by destroying the blood flow at the base of your hair follicle. When this blood flow is gone, the follicle and its active parts will shrivel and die. There are 4 phases in a follicle growth cycle: Early Growth, Active Growth, Regression, and Resting. A follicle in an Active Growth phase contains engorged blood flow and will be affected on your treatment day. A resting follicle has less blood supply and will not be affected by treatment. This is true for all forms of permanent hair reduction.
What will my skin look like after treatment?
In most people there is no sign that treatment has been done.
How many treatments will I need?
The average person needs 5-8 treatments. How many treatments you will need will depends on your number of growth cycles and how hair-free you wish to be. Because a hair follicle can only be destroyed an “active growth” cycle, your treatment will be timed to destroy the most hair follicles with each visit.
What is the interval time for each treatment?
Usually, treatments will be 4 weeks apart.
Is there any pre-treatment preparation that I need to do before the treatment?
You need to shave at least 1-2 days before the treatment session.
What are the possible side effects of this treatment?
While side effects are rare, some patients may have a swollen appearance to the follicle for a few minutes after treatment. This usually resolves before the client leaves the treatment room.
Is there any downtime?
No. Patients can return to their daily activities immediately with adequate moisturising and sunscreen protection.
Is the treatment painful and how does the treatment feel like?
No. The patient will feel like many small rubber tapping sensation on the skin and is generally very tolerable.

How does the laser work in tattoo removal?
Two key processes break up the ink – the pigment in your tattoo will absorb the energy from the laser and shatter apart; also, the incredibly fast pulse (5 nanosecond) of energy from the laser has a shockwave-like effect that assists the ink shattering. As a result, the ink acts like sugar cube breaking apart into small granules.
How does the body remove the shattered ink?
Once the ink is broken down by the tattoo removal laser, the body will respond by moving fluid to the area to help flush away the ink. This immune response will be obvious to the patient in the form of some swelling and redness in the area. Over the next days, weeks, and months the small, shattered ink particles will be flushed away naturally.
How long does the whole healing process for tattoo removal treatment take?
It usually takes 4 to 5 days at most in order for the full scab to form. In most cases the scabs fall off within 10 days from the treatment. Each unique patient and condition requires a different treatment protocol. Thus, each patient’s skin responds a bit differently and your results will depend on your compliance with your clinician’s instructions.
How many treatments will it take to remove tattoo?
It could take as little as 3 treatments for an amateur tattoo or as many as 15 treatments for a professionally applied tattoo. The number of treatments can depend on a number of factors, such as amount of ink used, depth of the ink placed in the skin and type of ink used and how your body responds to the treatment. The tattoo removal effects aren’t seen overnight and 99% of tattoos require multiple treatments.
What is the interval time of each treatment?
Your body needs time to break down the tattoo ink pigments after each laser treatment. This is a slow process; therefore you will typically schedule each treatment a minimum of 6 weeks apart.
Is the treatment painful?
During the treatment, patient will feel like rubber band snapping quickly on the skin. Thus, in order to make each patient as comfortable as possible, anaesthetic (numbing) cream will be applied before each treatment session.
What side effects might I experience?
Most patients experience some redness, swelling, and minor blistering of the skin after a laser treatment. These side effects are temporary and your skin will heal back completely.
What precautions should I take before and after this treatment?
(SPF>35) protection must be worn daily. Your clinician will advise you based on your skin type and the nature of the treatments that you are receiving.
How long does is each treatment session?
Each treatment takes about 30-40 minutes, depending on the size of the treated area.

How does the laser work in treating vascular lesions?
The energy from the laser is absorbed by the blood in the vein, converted into heat, and the vein walls are subsequently destroyed. Compared to other wavelengths, which mainly affects the surface layers of a lesion, this treatment also targets the underlying vascular feeding system – a necessary detail that ensures long-term efficacy. This process is safe because other healthy veins supply blood to the treated area and the body’s immune system clears away the dead tissue.
Who would benefit from this procedure?
This treatment can be done on all skin types. The people who are most likely to benefit from it are those who are suffering from deeper vascular lesions like hemangiomas, telangiectasias, and leg veins.
What can be expected during and after treatment?
During treatment, patient will feel warm and possibly pinching sensations. After the treatment, the skin may appear pink or reddish, which can last for an average of 20-30 minutes.
How long is the recovery time for this treatment?
Due to the minimally invasive nature of the treatments, you can expect only a little downtime.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no definite number of sessions that may be performed to achieve expected results. After your consultation, your clinician will then be able to estimate the number of sessions needed, based on the severity of your case.
How long until I can see results?
The results can already be appreciated after just one session, based on the severity of your case.
What does the treatment feel like?
You will feel short bursts of energy within seconds. Each laser shot feels like heating and possibly pinching sensations on the skin and is generally very tolerable.
How long does a treatment take?
Typically, a treatment session takes 20-30 minutes depending on the extent of work to be done, and the area that needs to be treated. This will be followed by a cooling, soothing and recovery treatment.
Are there any side effects?
Patients may experience some redness immediately after the treatment which may take a few hours to subside.
What can I expect after treatment?
The skin may appear pink or red, post treatment. But these symptoms usually subside in a few days.

What is Onychomycosis?
Onychomycosis, also known as tinea unguium, is a fungal infection of the nail. This condition may affect toenails or fingernails, but toenail infections are particularly common.
How does this laser treat Onychomycosis ?
It is a simple and effective procedure that uses the power of Nd:YAG laser light to heat evenly throughout the depth of the affected nail and skin tissue, effectively weakening and killing parasitic fungi which have infected the patient’s nails.
How many treatments are needed?
Depending on the severity of the fungal infection, about 3-5 treatments are recommended to completely rid the nail of fungus. More severe cases typically require 5-8 treatments. Remember that these are averages, and each patient is treated on an individual basis, meaning healing times will vary. A clean, normal nail can be expected to appear within 6-7 months.
Is this treatment safe?
YES! Unlike topical treatments or oral medications, the laser light is spread evenly throughout the nail. It is not subject to the limits of chemical diffusion (like topicals) or hepatoxic side effects (as is the case with oral medications).
How long will the treatment take?
The treatment generally takes 15-20 minutes.
Will the treatment hurt?
Generally, patients may experience mild discomfort from the heat generated by the laser, however it is usually painless.

What is Warts?
Warts are little, unpleasant developments caused by a viral disease of the skin or mucous layer. The infection taints the surface layer. The viruses that are known to cause warts are individuals from the human papilloma infection (HPV) family. Warts are not cancerous but rather a few strains of HPV, typically not related with warts, have been connected with growth development.
How does Fotona StarWalker® MaQX laser treat warts?
Fotona StarWalker® MaQX laser treatment emits long pulse ND: Yag which induces coagulation of blood vessels that feed the wart, which then cause necrosis. Necrosis is a certain type of cell injury resulting in the premature death of cells in existing, living tissues. Thus, the antibacterial effects promote faster healing and reduce the possibility of recurrence.
How many sessions will I need?
Generally, there are 2-3 treatment sessions required, which depends on the individual’s virus resistant, and initial state of the infection.
